FA BUT Ranks Among the TOP 200 Best Architecture Schools Worldwide
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has released its latest international World University Rankings by Subject. The Faculty of Architecture at Brno University of Technology (FA BUT) achieved its historic maximum, ranking 151st–200th in the "Architecture & Built Environment" category.
This result confirms our faculty’s position as a leading Central European center for architectural education. Within the Czech Republic, we share the top spot with CTU in Prague. Furthermore, together with CTU and the Warsaw University of Technology, we have achieved the best ranking in the entire Central and Eastern European region.
Continuous Growth in International Prestige
This year’s placement is the culmination of a long-term strategic effort to strengthen the faculty's international reputation. While FA BUT consistently ranked between 201st and 260th from 2023 to 2025, this year’s leap into the global top two hundred is a clear signal of the rising quality of our teaching and research.
At the same level (151st–200th place), prestigious global institutions can be found, such as Aarhus University(Denmark), the University of Chicago (USA), the University of Florence (Italy), and Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium).
Part of a Successful University
The success in architecture is part of a broader achievement for the entire Brno University of Technology. For the first time in history, four subjects at BUT reached the TOP 200: alongside Architecture, these include Mechanical Engineering, Material Sciences, and Civil Engineering. In the broad category of "Engineering & Technology," BUT overall rose to 228th place worldwide, an improvement of 54 positions compared to last year.
Ladislav Janíček, Rector of BUT, stated that these subject rankings allow the university to assess its competitiveness in a broad global context. He expressed his gratitude to the academic and research staff whose work contributed to this collective success.
About the QS Rankings
The QS World University Rankings by Subject have been published since 2013 and are among the most respected in the world. The evaluation is based on a combination of academic reputation, employer reputation, research citation impact, and in some fields, the H-index and international research collaboration. For our faculty, this ranking is not only an award for past work but also a commitment to further development and internationalization.
